Swindon Train Fares Rise

UPDATE 13 JAN 2011:
Commuters set up protest website

Disgruntled users of the Swindon-London train service have set up a website in protest at the new year rise in fares.

"Even if you do not use the train, this pricing structure serves to disadvantage all who live and work in Swindon by stifling inward investment that would create employment and prosperity for the town," said founder Chris Watts.

The cost for train commuters travelling from Swindon to London everyday has increased by 5.8% - with no guarantee of a seat.

An annual season ticket in 2011 will now cost £7,024, up from £6,640 in 2010.

First Great Western have also committed to increase the price to £8,783.29 by 2015.

"The price rises are harming the Swindon economy," commented Swindon South MP Robert Buckland.
